Zach Galifianakis’ Gardening Show: Why Gardening Is Having a Moment

Why I’m Excited About Zach Galifianakis’ New Gardening Show

As someone who has spent the last 17 years working in organic gardening, regenerative agriculture, and helping families reconnect with the land, I have to say—I am genuinely excited to see gardening getting this kind of attention.

When I first heard that Zach Galifianakis was creating a Netflix series about gardening, I was intrigued. Gardening is not usually the subject of mainstream entertainment, yet it is one of the most important skills we can reconnect with as humans.

His new series, This Is a Gardening Show, brings humor, curiosity, and storytelling into the world of plants, food, and farming. The show explores topics like growing apples, tomatoes, foraging, root vegetables, corn, and composting while highlighting the people and knowledge behind the food we eat.

What excites me most is the opportunity to introduce gardening to people who may have never considered growing their own food.

Gardening is not just about producing vegetables. It is about:

  • Understanding where our food comes from
  • Building healthy soil
  • Creating a relationship with the seasons
  • Spending time outdoors
  • Teaching our children where food actually comes from
  • Becoming more connected to the natural world

For years, gardening has sometimes felt like a forgotten skill. Many people have become disconnected from the process of growing, harvesting, and preparing their own food. Shows like this have the potential to spark curiosity and inspire families to step outside and plant something.

The beauty of gardening is that you don't need acres of land to begin. A few pots on a balcony, a raised bed in a backyard, or a small corner of your yard can be the beginning of a lifelong relationship with nature.

I hope this series encourages more people to get their hands in the soil, ask questions, and experience the incredible joy that comes from growing something themselves.

Because at the end of the day, gardening is not just about plants.

It is about connection.

Connection to our food.
Connection to the Earth.
Connection to ourselves.

And I am thrilled to see that conversation growing.
